After 32 Years of Trying Chris Curtis Finally Win’s The Big Ed Ritchie 60 Minutes of FEAR

The crown jewel weekend for both Super Stock and Outlaw figure eight division fired off with a jam packed schedule. Six classes on the schedule and big fields for all.

Starting with the Outlaw figure eights which had a strong 15 car field fire off. The field started straight up with No. 83g Zach Larson on the pole. Over the long run the lead would only change three times. Larson would lose out to the No. 676 Ricky Dietz, who would go on to lead the most laps before his motor let go and the car sputtered to a stop with less than three minutes still on the clock.

That is when No. 74 Chris Curtis would slide past the stopped Dietz and would hold off Larson for the final few minutes and capture victory. The race had always been the one that had gotten away from Curtis, with him being one of the few drivers who have been

seeking the win since the inaugural race.

For Larson a second place finish will look good for him in his battle for a season championship, but will leave some to be desired as he will have to wait another year to capture his first 60 Minutes of Fear win. Finishing in third place was No. 9 of Dakota Wilkinson. For points leader No. 1 Ryan Clark, he was able to recover a 5th place finish and mitigate the points loss after hard contact with the No. 767 of Jamie Corbett sent Clark to the pits and off the lead lap.

Super Stock figure eights rolled a 20 car main event for their end of the night. Last year’s winner No. 36 “The Cowboy” John Carlson started on the pole and dominated the caution-filled race. Leading every lap on his way to victory and retaining the Super Stock 60 Minute of FEAR title. A great run for the No. 47 of Jeff Talbert saw him capture his first podium of the year in second.

Third place was the big story however, a scoring issue with the loop on track caused the track officials to initially declare the No. 45 Chevy Vincent in third over the v8 of Steve Peters in fourth.

It was a tough night for points leader Mackenzie Repin who had a motor issue while running in the top three forcing her to park it for the night. She would finish tenth.

Stinger eights had a 30 lap feature with their 60 minute race coming at the end of the season. The majority of the race was led by No. 13 Tyler Draper, but Draper would lose the lead to No. 21 Matt Sommerville with less than ten to go. Somerville would hang on and win on the night. No. 43 Damon Claibourn would finish second and No. 10 Cody Hoopes would finish in third.

One driver has dominated the last three Mini Stock events in No. 97 Zach Bristol and this race weekend was no different. The day didn't start great for Bristol when he drove over the top of No. 15 Matt Snyder. If there were any issues from the incident you wouldn’t have known it from the main event.

Bristol would lead 24 of 25 laps and he would claim his third straight win. No. 221 Lindon Smith finished in second and No. 16 Travis Woodward finished in third claiming his second podium finish for Woodward.

A change up for Hornet class as the 3/8 mile oval returned as the course for the division that runs primarily road courses. The simple change helped to create an instant classic of a race saw No. 55 Bobby Houck claim a hard fought victory over Claibourn and No. 99 Frank Mirabelli. The three drivers traded paint and fenders for over 20 laps up front.

Youth Hornets had a split A and B main event again. The A was won by No. 43 Mason Blodgett. No. 5j Harleigh Jenkins would finish in second and No. 22 Jaylen Morgan would finish in third. The B was won by No. 13 Catryna Mahoney. No. 58 Charlee Stevens would finish in second and No. 08 Alexis Iverson would finish in third.
