Knapp, Lewis, Johnson and Fisher Top First May Race at Deming Speedway

Everson, WA - April is in the books and May kicked off with a bang at Deming Speedway with 108 cars signed in to compete on Phillips 66 / Bulldog Landscaping Night at Deming Speedway. 

Colton Knapp has now ventured to the top of the mountain after leading all 25 laps of the Speedmar 600 division for his first win. Despite heavy traffic and a very slick race track, Colton kept a healthy race lead for nearly the whole contest in taking his win of the adult division. Jared Peterson was second while Tristin Thomas was third. Heat race wins went to Peterson, Knapp, McKenna Morgan and Cooper Anderson. 

The Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class looked like the Nate Vaughn show for the third week in a row before disaster struck on lap 12 when a spinning Kiel Vailliant collected Vaughn in his wake, ending Nate’s bid for a third straight win. The lead passed to Alex Lewis who pushed through for his first win of the year, followed by Jayden Whitney’s best 1200 effort so far with a second and Parker Hadlock in third. Vaughn and Dakota Drake won the heat races. 

Ryan Orchard went wire to wire for the win in the first appearance of the year of the NW Focus Midgets. Orchard was challenged by Shane Smith for most of the race before a spinning lapped car collected him up, handing second to Jared Peterson. Peterson made a couple bids for the top spot but Orchard held strong in collecting the win over Peterson and Jeff Westergard. Heat race wins went to Smith and Alex Pacheco. 

Hudson Johnson came out on top of a spirited battle with Ethan McFarland in the Doyle Guffie’s Rallye Auto Sales 600 Restricted Class. McFarland led the first 15 laps before Johnson muscled his way underneath him on lap 16 to take the top spot. McFarland kept Hudson close but it was Johnson taking his second win of the year at the checkered flag in front of Ethan and Hayden Adams. Heat wins went to Savanna Hillier, Aiden Stone, Brooklyn Bracy and McFarland.

After four straight weeks of podium finishes, Lucas Fisher worked his way to the win on Friday night in the Capstone Plastering JR Sprints. Fisher took the lead from Jace Coates on lap 14 and rolled the rest of the way to the win, with Jace taking second and his cousin Luke Coates running third. Fisher was also a heat race winner on the night along with Austin Harris and Kayson Sargent.
